Fundraising Policy
Our donors come from all walks of life. Some of you are adults who grew up as children with special needs and know what it's
like to struggle through the public education system without appropriate support. Others of you are parents of children with
special needs who appreciate how hard it is to make changes happen and know that there are other parents just like you who perhaps
have even less resources than you do and whose struggles may be even more challenging than yours.
Yet others of you are extended family members who watch your loved ones struggle day after day to achieve appropriate educational outcomes for their own children. Or, maybe you're just a concerned member of the community who would rather invest in empowering children to become productive adults than finance their ongoing support as tax-dependents for the rest of their lives.
Regardless of your motivation to give, we want to give you a say in how your contributions are being used. KPS4Parents operates fairly simply. Whatever comes in pays for whatever goes out. (To see case synopses of children who would benefit from your donations, click here.)
Because we offer sliding scale rates and payment plan options to the families we serve, we never pull in as much as our total billing each month. Part of the time-cost of money is calculated into our standard hourly rate, however, that still doesn't translate out into enough revenue to cover our expenses from one month to the next. The rest has to be made up by donations, money generated through our fundraising activities, and paralegal fees generated from the rare case that goes to due process (so few of our cases go to due process anymore that this is not considered a reliable source of revenue).
As with any 501(c)(3) non-profit, donors have the freedom to make restricted contributions to KPS4Parents. If you make an unrestricted contribution, you leave it up to us to apply your donation to whatever expenses most urgently need to be paid. If you make a restricted donation, however, you can determine what your donation pays for. You can limit your donation to a particular child's case, cases in a particular school district, cases in a particular geographic region, community outreach programs, our consultations with public education agencies ... pretty much anything we do. You can limit it to specific costs, such as just our postage or just our telecommunications expenses, for example. Gas money for IEP meetings is always appreciated!
We handle restricted online donations through a custom field on our PayPal donation form. When click on the "Donate" button, you will be taken to a web page where you can indicate how much you are donating. Once you update the donation amount and either log into your PayPal account or click over to input your credit card information, if you are making a restricted donation, you will see "+Restricted Donation Instructions." Click on the "+" sign and a box will pop up into which you can type in your donation restrictions. From there, proceed as normal to submit your donation. That's it!
Upon receiving your donation, we will send you an email with your tax receipt and reflect that your contribution has been earmarked for restricted use for the specific item(s) indicated. If you are making an unrestricted contribution, your receipt will reflect that instead.
While you are welcome to give to cover the costs of a particular child, we cannot disclose confidential client information. If you are donating on behalf of a particular child, it's because you are a family member, friend of the family, or the family has engaged in its own fundraising efforts with donations coming directly back to us to help cover the costs of that child's case. If this is the case, you may be provided with a custom donation link or you can simply use the donation button on our website and indicate in the restricted field the name of the child for whom your donation is intended.
You can mail donations by check if you prefer, made payable to KPS4Parents, Inc., to 2510-G Las Posas Rd. #482, Camarillo, CA 93010, and indicate on the memo line of your check if your donation is restricted and, if so, the specific cost or activity to which you want your contribution applied. If mailing a donation, please be sure to include either your email address or a mailing address where we can send your tax receipt.
Questions about our donation policy can be directed to us at donations@kps4parents.org.
Your contribution, even if just for $1, is truly appreciated and empowers us to make a real difference in the lives of individual children, their families, their communities, and society as a whole.
